The First Weekly Roundup (2/11/17)
Another reminder that action matters and our battle is not hopeless, for those standing up to Trump in ways big and small we accomplished a lot this week.
1. US Appeals Court upholds suspension of travel ban by 3-0 allowing refugees and green card holders to continue to enter or return home.
2. Two republican Senators broke party lines and voted AGAINST Betsy DeVos confirmation. Parents then blocked her from entering a public school in Washington, DC.
3. Major retailers such as Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus, Kmart, Sears, Shoes.com, and Bellacort have dumped Trump brand products inspired by boycotts led by groups such as #GrabYourWallet.
4. SleepingGiants @slpng_giants has confirmed over 2000 advertisers have agreed to stop advertising on the hate/fake news site Breitbart.com.
5. Reebok announces the sale of “Nevertheless She Persisted” T-shirt, with all profits going to support the Woman’s March organization after Senator Warren is shut down from reading Coretta Scott King’s letter on the Senate floor.
6. At Town Hall meetings and Local Offices nationwide, Republicans and Democrats have encountered large, angry crowds of constituents. Thousands are protesting almost every day in cities across the country, including 70,000 people who showed up in Raleigh, North Carolina.
7. Dailyaction.org announced that they have recorded 1.5 million minutes of calls to members of Congress and other officials since they began.
Remember, we are in this for the long haul. We will lose many battles along the way, but we will win this war. So this week, please read a good book, have a drink with friends, go to an art exhibit, or knit another pussy hat, in between your phone calls, postcard writing, protesting, or whatever actions you do, to keep yourself sane.
